THE BUZZ ABOUT Megan Munroe’s ONE MORE BROKEN STRING

“Fine songwriting and vocals benefit from fine guitar and steel-guitar from Robby Springfield. You can hear the roots music of America in Munroe’s voice, and her knowledge and sincerity make for a splendid listen.” -John Heidt, VINTAGE GUITAR

“Megan Munroe. Remember the name, as she’s sure to make a lasting impression. Blessed with a voice melodic and country …more Ashton Shepherd than Taylor Swift. Sure and poised , she writes her own songs and hits her intended bullseye easily with shades of Americana, blues and country.”-George Peden, COUNTRY STARS ONLINE

“I never thought it was possible to say that any human being alive could remotely come close to Dolly Parton with regard to the sensitivity, honesty and warmth of lyrical songs without it being obviously a calculated attempt at copying her. But in a completely different and modern way, Megan manages to evoke a similar need to listen to every word which leaves the listener waiting with bated breath for the sort of each song to unfold. This CD is a 10 out of 10 moment.”– Michele Breeze, TRAD MUSIC MAKER ( U.K.)

“Megan creates musically sound, appealing tunes and exhibits an ethical grounding and a determination to remain independent. She wields a philosopher's rapidly maturing mind, offering a self-released, top-quality CD.”– Deborah Wilbrink, FOLKWAX ( U.K.)

“The rare combination of eye-pleasing appearance, piercing songwriting and captivating voice sets Nashville newcomer Megan Munroe apart… More than her competing country cuties, she has the distinctive down-home yowl that instantly evokes the heyday of Tanya Tucker, Janie Fricke and Tammy Wynette.” -Alan Cackett, MAVERICK (U. K.)

“Arriving radio ready, appealing to the eye, the ear and the heart, intensely immersed in her largely self-penned songs, Megan Munroe is set to join the lineage of tough country gal singers descended most recently from Gretchen Wilson and Miranda Lambert, the latter being the whom she most resembles in her sassy attitude and chip-on-the-shoulder self-assurance.”-David McGhee, THEBLUEGRASSSPECIAL.COM

“The sincerity of Megan’s music is a reflection of her many years of listening to the good Country sounds her parents played at home. The rest is a vibrant legacy of the best Seattle tradition, wrapped up in her constant need to communicate with others, whether that is with a song, a poem or a simple hug. Whether you want to call her Country, Americana, Pop or even Rock, Megan Munroe definitely is an original artist with a beautiful voice and the kind of songs that keep you hanging around, already waiting for the next album to come.” -Esther Berlanga-Ryan, ALLABOUTCOUNTRY.COM

"Check out Megan being picked for Roughstock.com's "Ones to Watch in 2009"

"Just like every other year, 2008 saw its fair share of newcomer success stories in the likes of Ashton Shepherd, Chuck Wicks, Julianne Hough and Lady Antebelum. Other artists, like Jamey Johnson, James Otto and Jimmy Wayne seemingly rose from the ashes that were their careers like a phoenix. All of these artists scored Top 10 hits (Wayne and Otto #1 singles) and scored successful album releases. Darius Rucker, Jewel and Jessica Simpson managed to cross-over into country music with their debut country albums. So with that kind of success last year, what does 2009 hold for these eight newcomers?"- Roughstock.com

With a voice that demands listeners snap to attention, Washington-native Megan Munroe blends blues, country, and bluegrass sounds into an Americana blend that champions artistic integrity without sacrificing commercial appeal.

Of the dozen originals contained on her first Nashville-based album, none are generic or obvious; she possesses vocal personality, demonstrating not only how to convey the genuine emotion of a song, but an ability to connect with her listening audience. Belle Meade, Moonshine, and Angel on Fire are standouts.

Megan Munroe: you’ve likely never heard of her; I certainly hadn’t, but think K.T. Tunstall as a country singer. Now look her up on MySpace and listen. I think you may be impressed.

“ONE MORE BROKEN STRING is such an eloquent record! Megan is truly an 'Angel on Fire.' Aside from the arrangements that allow her vocals to shine through, the lyrics are direct and simple, and communicate lifetimes of understanding of the human condition. Amazing in such a young artist. Welcome to the world stage!"
–Ralph Murphy (VP Int’l & Domestic Membership Group/ASCAP

“Do angels sneer? Apparently, when placed in the role of the long-suffering wife Megan Munroe voices in numbers like “Leavin’ Memphis,” they do. Jarring may be the word that best describes Munroe’s music. The honey-voiced Washington-born, Nashville transplant sounds like she should be singing in the church choir. However, her sophomore album One More Broken String proves she isn’t afraid to raise some musical hell. In the follow-up to her 2006 debut Married to the Melody, Munroe sprinkles her blend of country, bluegrass, gospel, and blues with enough vinegar to counter the sweet tones she uses to relate a collection of tales about saints and sinners. Munroe is beginning to gain traction internationally, with radio airplay in countries ranging from Switzerland to Australia. Perhaps it’s time for the United States to catch up.”-Melodic Sunburst, melodicsunburst.wordpress.com
