Sliding Doors

Posted by: admin in myblog on

So I have never actually seen the movie Sliding Doors with Gwyneth Paltrow. It came out in '98, but I find myself thinking about that movie all the time. As I understand it, it's a movie about missing a train and how two completely different lives stem from such a seemingly innate detail.

I found this synopsis on IMDB:

"A London woman's love life and career both hinge, unknown to her, on whether or not she catches a train. We see it both ways, in parallel."

Here's the deal. I don't want to see this film. I am sure that it isn't as absolutely enlightening as the concept is behind the drama, and I know I would be let down. But it does make for absolutely delicious commentary.

For instance, moments ago on an unusually dreary and wet day here in Nashville I made a routine pit stop at the local HG Hill market for some jerky and swung by Dunn Brothers Coffee for some tea and a few minutes to myself. Chatting away with my mom about nothing, (our conversations are extremely consistent but rarely do I say anything she doesn't already know), my boot suddenly gave way and slipped out from under me.

In that moment, my phone flew out of my hand and I knew I was going down. Wearing a white coat and knowing that this may end in a broken tailbone, I could do nothing but just let gravity play it's evil tricks.

Before I knew it an angel appeared, in a red hoodie and skater shoes, reaching out to save me from a bitter fall. He didn't know me. It probably would've been a funny story to tell his buddies later, about how this dressed up professional chick bit asphalt right in front of him. But he didn't let me fall. A stranger reached out and saved me.

I don't know what parallel existence me falling on my arse would have created, but an awful afternoon would have been the first sliding door followed by a hefty dry cleaning bill and a broken butt to round it all out.

Life has so many possibilities, and I often wonder how many times a traffic jam has saved me from an fatal accident, a lost cell phone has kept me from making a stupid call, or a bitter loss has helped me find what I was really looking for- or, in this case, a broken fall has kept me from uttering one more cuss word followed by a renewed appreciation for my fellow man.

But most of all I wonder, if that guy hadn't of caught me what consequences would be plaguing me right now? And introspectively, how many times have I let someone fall down right in front of me and never reached out a helping hand?

To the dude in the red, thank you for teaching me a lesson, and thank you for setting the example for how we can all save each other one broken fall at a time.

Since 1985, Christmas in the Northwest artists have been lighting up the holidays, and raising money for Children's Hospitals through the sale of the Christmas in the Northwest CD series. This year I got cut number 7 on the cd. I urge you to go to www.christmasinthenorthwest.com and get a copy yourself. All the proceeds go to benefit Children's Hospital, and this time of year is especially difficult for families that have children in need of medical care.

I am very proud to be a part of this project. Check out my tune, "Most Unlikely Place", on this Christmas in the Northwest 10. You can find it at your local Top Foods, Walgreens, Bartell Drugs, Made in Washington Stores, Silver Platters, and Fred Meyer.

Thanks for the support and May God bless you this holiday season!

So I am fresh off of the road today after a grueling four and a half hour drive back from Eugene last night. Which got me into my bed at the ungodly hour of 4:30am! I am a sleep baby and I love nothing more than to get some good old shut-eye, so this sacrifice for me was grueling...but my oh my, so well worth it!

Both shows were awesome, the band was great and I had a blast! But the best thing about these shows were the fans, my Lord, I was blown away. Everyone was so outgoing and encouraging. I even got to hang with some Portland locals after the show and hang out at Kell's Irish Pub, it was such a great time! For some of my first dates outside of Washington, I can't wait to go back through there again.

Eric put on a kick ass show both nights, and I gotta say there's something about that guy, he's got mighty fine stage presence.

This upcoming Halloween is going to be off the charts. Now that I know what being on the road with Church is like, I can not wait to rock with my hometown crowd!

I went on a run a few hours ago just to recap the last few days and clear my head, and although I have butterflies in my stomach about the exciting move to Nashville, I am well aware of how much I am going to miss Seattle. I will miss my home terribly, but most of all I will miss you...the fans, my friends, and my family.

 See you Halloween!

So, last Thursday night I played the Tractor Tavern with Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband, and it is official: I want a banjo in my band too! They were so fun to watch I am glad that I got to share the stage with them. Our set was awesome and I was so happy with the new band, they really gave it all they had.

As far as the rest of the dates are concerned I am pretty excited about all the stages, fairs, and bars that I will be playing over the next few months. There is something in the air right now, a kind of passionate magnetism that is slowly buzzing around me. It's lulling me into a subtle addiction. My heart is beating a little stronger these days, feeding my affinity towards performing. I feel charged by positivity and optimism right now. I want to play these shows everyday, all day. The music I make with my band wakes me up from an otherwise monotonous day in and day out daze. Not that I would change my life for the world, I am so blessed out of my mind where I am at...but there's something about music and performing that shakes me out of apathy into a new understanding and appreciation for people, emotions, and the language of song.

We are still adding new dates to the summer tour, and its looking like it may overflow into fall. As long as I have passionate and dedicated people around me that want to play, I will book right into Christmas and the new year if need be. Keep checking back!

So the summer tour schedule is going to be great! I have a wide range of venues. From beautiful wineries to the fairs. I am hoping that everybody will get out and enjoy the shows. I just got back from Nashville, TN and had a great and productive trip. As a songwriter there is something about the rolling hills in Tennessee that spark such intense creativity in me. I am super excited about the future and where my music is leading.

I thank everyone of you that have supported me thus far in my career. I am feeling very optimistic about the new songs I have written. I also have some great co-writing sessions coming up with some amazing writers that will prove to be very integral to the development of my music. (These writers have collaborated with Diamond Rio and Eric Clapton and are now going to be writing with me!)I am also going to be launching a publishing site that will be dedicated to collectively representing all of my songs. This will be called Three-Hundred Mile Music, so keep your eyes open for that venture. it will be dedicated to the co-writing that I have been doing with my friend Brian Oaks.I am excited about getting back on the road.

Smile y'all it's spring! See ya soon. Love,Meg

Its a quiet afternoon in my life. Outside my window, Seattle is covered by light feathery grey clouds. The sun is veiled slightly, causing the light to be thin and transparent. Now that my Tractor Tavern debut is done (which was a rockin'-sold-out-pack-em-in great time and I thank each and every one of you for coming out and supporting me) I am at rest now just kicking around, writing and resting. The excitement and hard work that went into preparing for the Eric Church gig has come and gone, and now I am happy to take a holiday break and decompress.

And what better time to recharge than during the Holiday season! I love to hunker down with some cocoa and await the Christmas season. As anyone who knows me will tell you I am a Christmas nut! I love the tradition of it all, those markers of the season that weave in and out of our mid-weekdays, creating a mood of expectation and surprise. I love the food, the get-togethers the songs, and lights. Nothing's better than picking up your own Christmas tree and pouring a cup of Nog. Its funny how something as simple as the warm glow of Christmas lights can cast everything in a different light. Otherwise abandoned side streets can be transformed into twinkling wonderlands, with a few properly placed strands of icicle lights. I especially love how at this time of year everything seems to be drenched in the scent of cinnamon and pine. But besides the joy, fun and sensory aspects that surround the season, it is also a time of reflection for those of us that are blessed enough to be living in grace and freedom. Its a time to remember and reach out to those that are not as lucky to have family, friends and freedom.

I am blessed to be free to love and give love this season. I am sure that you also have many people in your life to be thankful for, and are ready to love a little more this season. As my music begins to evolve every year, I am brought into communication with new people from all over the world. Just as a song can bind souls together, so can the spirit of Christmas. Take advantage of this time and do a little something extra for not only those you love, but strangers as well.

I can not wait to kick off the new year with some great shows, and new developments. I wish you all the best holiday season, and remember to drink it all in while you can. Life goes by in a twinkle of an eye my friends, lets be sure not to miss it.

Love and joy,

Megan

November 22nd, 2006 Tractor Tavern Sold Out!

Posted by: admin in Untagged  on

What a night!  It was great to see the sea of  familiar faces in the sold out audience at The Tractor. I was  encouragement  as I  looked out at that packed house and saw people  singing along AND KNOWING THE WORDS, showing me you were connnecting. I could FEEL YOU and now I know that this is where I want to be...on stage sharing my heart & soul through my music.  You inspire me and I thank God for those of you who have been faithful in supporting me on the journey, which by the way has just begun. I know I will look back one day and know that because of you I was able to keep pressing on.

I met with Eric on his tour bus after the show and could see myself one day in my own tour bus welcoming fans like you in for a casual chat.

August & Sept have been jammed with memorable moments for me.  Starting with  Sweetfest in Redmond - spectacular defining moments keep comin'.

Spokane - I LOVE YOU...I felt embraced by the country-lovin' people from the moment I arrived.  Ryan Dokke, the afternoon djay on 94  Cat FM aired a live interview from the Fair and then I meet with Coyote at KIX 96.  I felt so special and Coyote blessed me with his belief in me and my music.  After our incredible radio interview - I rushed back to the hotel TO HEAR MY SONGS FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME on the airwaves.  I don't have to tell you the chills bumps surfaced and my heart raced.  Thank you Coyote for a moment in time that I will never forget.

Next - I ran over to the fair and Ed Dougherty took me backstage to hang with Lee Greenwood and his guys.  I pray their seasoned knowledge will rub off on me.  Next day, another great opportunity to sing The National Anthem before The Oakridge Boys concert - and to get encouragement and thumbs up from them - another defining moment.

Saturday - my guys (they rock!) came over and joined me in headlining on the Spokane Fair stage.   We felt such support again from the Spokane crowd.  Another first - We SOLD OUT on our CD sales.  This all came about because Ed took a chance on an unknown act and booked us for the Fair.  Hope we made you proud, ED and we hope to be back again next year.

I'm thinking things can't just keep getting better -   Then I recieved the call that another dream/goal was to be fulfilled - ERIC CHURCH's camp picked me and my guys (have I mentioned my band guys  are great? ) out of many talented possibilities to open for Eric at THE TRACTOR TAVERN on Nov. 20th - (THIS WILL SELL OUT - GET YOUR TICKETS THIS VERY MOMENT) http://www.ericchurch.com

Had a great time coming back to Spokane again the next weekend for The Farm Chicks Antique show...met lots of new friends and saw some old friends too - Thanks for coming back to hear more.  Being a lovers of all things OLD, (No, Mom, I don't mean you) I picked up some great finds at the best darn Antique Show I've ever experienced.

OK - then my awesome friend Icabod Caine from KMPS calls me while I am boarding  my flight from LA. (I was returning home from some industry meetings.  You'll have to check back to see what comes of it).   Icabod and I  had  this totally hysterical live phone interview from the bathroom stall in the airplane.  Take-off was any moment so it was a breathless insane interview with The Waking Crew that I may never live down.  Icabod played clips from the 1st three songs on my CD and  "Patch of Blue" on the show.   If you listen to the words of "Patch of Blue" (check out STORE and go to ITunes)  you'll get a glimpse of my feelings when I heard it played.  After the tears from laughing at myself came - the came the tears of joy.  Thanks Icabod.

I promise I won't wait this long to update what's going on in the future so it doesn't read like a novel- but  I can't believe all this has happened in less than 30 days.  Stay tuned - "I can feel the pressure rising" (Can anyone tell me where that line is from? First person to let me know - I want to send you one of my TShirts so EMail me back!).  Love to ya'll - Megan

Capital Lakefair- July 24th, '06

Posted by: admin in Untagged  on

Hello my friends!

So this last Saturday I had the privilege to play outdoors as the headlining act at the Capital Lakefair festival. The capitol building was looming over the fairgrounds and was reflecting in the lake, painting a very beautiful backdrop for the show.

Aside from the heat (98 degrees and rising ha!) it was a blast!! The crowd was dancing and clapping - making the show that much more fun for me and the guys. Backstage when I was getting ready The Wakefields were playing and they were so great, beautiful melodies and awesome attire (cowboy to the core) and it was just a wonderful way to spend a Saturday.

Thanks to those loyal fans who came out. Hope to see YOU at the next show, I'll keep you updated on when that will be!

God Bless,

Megan
